Now Playing Synopsis: Writer/director Joss Whedon (Serenity, Marvel's The Avengers) gives William Shakespeare's beloved battle-of-the-sexes comedy a contemporary makeover in this feature adaptation starring Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof. In the wake of an eventful trip abroad, Claudio (Fran Kranz) and Benedick (Denisof) arrive safely back in their hometown of Messina, where Claudio wastes no time declaring his love for Hero (Jillian Morgese). Alas, when clever Benedick learns that his friend has poured his heart out to the daughter of powerful governor Leonato (Clark Gregg), he chides his old friend relentlessly over the syrupy assertion while engaging Leonato's outspoken niece Beatrice (Acker) in a series of spirited debates. Meanwhile, somewhere amidst all of the pointed insults and playful barbs, something that strangely resembles true love seems to blossom between Benedick and Beatrice. Nathan Fillion, Reed Diamond, and Sean Maher co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi Cast: Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Clark Gregg, Reed Diamond, Fran Kranz Movie Details Play Trailer

Now Playing Synopsis: What goes on backstage at a high-school musical turns out to be more exciting than what is in front of the footlights in this comedy-drama from director Marc Evans. It's 1976, and Vivienne (Minnie Driver) is a music teacher at a high school in a working-class suburb of Swansea, Wales. Vivienne has been put in charge of directing the school's end-of-season musical, and she's chosen an unusual and ambitious project -- an adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Tempest with a score assembled from contemporary rock tunes. Swansea isn't exactly a haven for the arts, and Vivienne has a hard time keeping her cast interested in rehearsals as warm weather arrives and the end of the school year looms. However, there are exceptions -- Davey (Aneurin Barnard) is excited that he gets to play love scenes as Ferdinand with the play's Miranda, a girl named Stella (Danielle Branch) who has stolen his heart despite her reputation. However, as Davey becomes infatuated with Vivienne, things become increasingly complicated for her, especially after she persuades several members of the faculty to join the cast. Hunky Dory includes performances of period-appropriate tunes from a number of British rock acts, including David Bowie, Electric Light Orchestra, and Nick Drake. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi Cast: Minnie Driver, Aneurin Barnard, Danielle Branch, Robert Pugh, Haydn Gwynne Movie Details Play Trailer

Now Playing Synopsis: The classic Shakespearean romantic tragedy is updated by director Baz Luhrmann to a post-modern Verona Beach where swords are merely a brand of gun and bored youths are easily spurred toward violence. Longtime rivals in religion and business, the Montagues and the Capulets share a page from the Jets and Sharks of West Side Story when they form rival gangs. Romeo (Leonardo DiCaprio) is aloof toward the goings-on of his Montague cousins, but after he realizes that Juliet (Claire Danes) is a Capulet at the end of one very wild party, the enmity between the two clans becomes the root of his angst. He relies heavily -- and with serious consequences -- on his rebel gender-bender of a friend, Mercutio (Harold Perrineau Jr.), and Father (not Friar) Lawrence (Pete Postlethwaite) for protection and support. Romeo is, of course, exiled, and it looks like Juliet will be forced into an arranged marriage with the bland Paris (Paul Rudd). It ends, as Romeo and Juliet must, when Romeo hears a tragic piece of misinformation and brings his suicide wish to what was meant to be Juliet 's temporary tomb. This time, though, the turf and the weapon of choice have taken a turn toward the surreal. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Claire Danes, John Leguizamo, Harold Perrineau, Jr., Pete Postlethwaite Movie Details
