Briana VinZant of Soldotna graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in English and theatre from the University of Jamestown in Jamestown, North Dakota, at a May 9 commencement ceremony held at the Jamestown Civic Center.

Katherine Obrien of Kenai, and Daniel Rivenbark of Soldotna were named to Dean's List at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Students with a GPA of 3.50 or higher are eligible for the Dean's List.

With sporadic snowfall and stretches of high wind across the Kenai Peninsula the past two weeks, training conditions were less than ideal for area cross-country skiing teams as they prepared for the 2010-11 ski season.

Sports Brief: Muchas compete at Junior Olympics

The Cross Country Junior Nationals, the national championships for skiers ages 15 to 20, continued Wednesday in Minneapolis with the classic mass start races. The Kenai Peninsula is being represented by Bree Mucha of Soldotna High School and Kenai Central graduate and current University of Wisconsin - Green Bay skier Kailey Mucha.
