Reflections on the season of Christmas

It was December 1864 when Henry Wadsworth Longfellow penned the words to the poem "Christmas Bells." The nation was embroiled in Civil War, and Longfellow's son had been wounded in battle. His wife had died in a tragic fire accident a few years before. The poem eventually became the carol "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" with a slight re-arrangement of stanzas by John Baptiste Calkin.
