Christmas time in the elementary classroom when I was a teacher always seemed bright and colorful. Lots of creative writing was generated by the season. The Clarion published a special edition insert featuring writing by the students.
A nickname for Alaska and many northern regions is "The Land of the Midnight Sun." In Alaska we are blessed with an abundance of sunlight and rays in the summer, while in the winter we long for light and warmth. Light has many redeeming qualities and it is easy to take it for granted, especially when it is not around.

April 1st, a day for fun and fooling. Some have commented about it being a national holiday based on Psalm 14:1. People say things in their hearts, as that verse indicates. I am thankful that is how God chooses to relate to us as well as shown in 2 Corinthians 4:6.

On a family campout this summer, we sat around the fire looking up through the trees trying to see the stars. The limbs obscured the night sky so that the stars weren't visible. My oldest granddaughter, Sierra said, "It's too dark to see the stars."
