Sunlight and the warmth from the sun are wonderful treats; finally increasing together. This time of year holds so much hope of a bright spring and warm summer. The rising sun is marching northward on the eastern horizon.

The meaning of Christmas from A to Z

Christmas time in the elementary classroom when I was a teacher always seemed bright and colorful. Lots of creative writing was generated by the season. The Clarion published a special edition insert featuring writing by the students.

Light has numerous meanings, qualities

A nickname for Alaska and many northern regions is "The Land of the Midnight Sun." In Alaska we are blessed with an abundance of sunlight and rays in the summer, while in the winter we long for light and warmth. Light has many redeeming qualities and it is easy to take it for granted, especially when it is not around.

Voices of Religion: Is it too dark for you to see God's light?

On a family campout this summer, we sat around the fire looking up through the trees trying to see the stars. The limbs obscured the night sky so that the stars weren't visible. My oldest granddaughter, Sierra said, "It's too dark to see the stars."
