Not everyone's name has been engraved on the wall

Both during and after the Vietnam War, literately thousands of American Veterans suffered, endured then died from exposure to the chemical Agent Orange. Those Veterans died from their wounds after serving in Vietnam but their names are not included on "The Wall," the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C.,and the traveling memorial. Over 58,000 American Veterans are included on "The Wall."

All military veterans on the Kenai Peninusla: Ask your children and grandchildren what their school has planned for Veterans Day. I think that you will be shocked by the answers you recieve. The 11th month, 11th day,11th hour each and every year is recognized as Veterans' Day. This year it falls on Sunday, with observances at the Soldotna Sports Center.

Snowmachining across private property disrespectful

I'm just curious as to when the joy of riding a snowmachine became more important than respecting the private property of local residents. Once again, we have a example of the bad behavior of a few ruining the freedom for everyone. Started out with only a few riding their snowmachines through my front yard and near the drainage ditch. That soon progressed to dozens riding through my front yard at all hours of the day and night and wee hours of the morning -- to within only 3 feet of my bedroom window, which obviously upsets me.

Forget Pebble Mine - our junk yards are worse

All of this ranting and raving over the possible pebble mine project. We already allow a huge source of pollution here on the Kenai: our local junk yards. Literately mountians of rusting, butt-ugly junk vehicles that leak every know toxin that you can think of - anti-freeze, motor oil, transmission fluid, gas, diesel, battery acid, grease - all of which slowly seep from these junk vehicles and pollute our land, rivers and streams. No one says a word about this pollution; it continues for generations.

Alaska veterans to the front of the line

There is no other group of Alaskans who have earned the right to move to the front of the line and be first with employment opportunities and job interviews than our Alaskan military veterans.

Legislature could telecommute to conferences

Personally I believe that it is not necessary at all to provide air travel, taxi cabs, hotels, food and lodging and days and days of these expenses for our legislators to attend conferences in Washington, D.C. in the middle of the session.

Permanent Fund gaffe, new hire irks reader

Our Alaska Permanent Fund Manager sent out over 5,500 PFD checks to the wrong Alaskans today. Well what does that do for your confidence in the PFD management? White collar, highly educated, earning 6 figure salaries, the business world elite send our money to the wrong people! Then I learn today that a "Wall Street type" has been hired as the Alaska Permanent Fund CEO. A pervious hedge fund manager from New Jersey! Does any one besides me see something seriously wrong happening here?
