Partisan politics harmful to resolving current issues

Alaskans had a wonderful opportunity last November when they elected an independent for governor. Apparently the legislature didn't get the memo that this is a new era and one where we can be different than Washington, D.C.

More detail needed on challenger's agenda

Why doesn't the challenger for Senator Begich's seat tell us what he can do rather than tell us his view of the incumbent? The country needs people who can work together not more divisive comments that tear us apart. I am particularly incensed by many cardboard mailers from candidate Sullivan who tells us that Senator Begich has voted with the President 97 percent or 95 percent or 93 percent of the time. Maybe he hasn't checked the U.S. Constitution but it clearly states that Congress votes and the President doesn't vote on legislation.

Missing debates makes it harder to weigh candidate

In a democracy information is very important, especially in selecting the best candidates to represent us. It is very disappointing that candidate Bearup refused to participate in three face to face debates (two invitations from the League of Women Voters and one from KSRM radio). It is difficult to make an educated decision without an opportunity to judge candidates for one's self when they are side by side answering exactly the same questions.
