Peninsula Oilers get by Mat-Su Miners

First, it looked as if this game could be won by the hitters. Then, the Peninsula Oilers' pitchers took over - and now there's a tie atop the Alaska Baseball League standings.John Maciel, Brandon Kizer and Tyler Blum supplied a sterling pitching effort Saturday night for the Oilers, who used two early runs, tacked another one on late and survived a ninth-inning rally for a 3-2 victory over the Mat-Su Miners at Coral Seymour Memorial Park. Peninsula improves to 17-9 overall and 10-6 in the ABL, moving into a tie for first with Mat-Su (12-8 ABL).

Miners shut down Oilers

Cam Kneeland broke a tie with a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting the Mat-Su Miners to 3-1 win over the Peninsula Oilers in Alaska Baseball League action Thursday at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.Mat-Su improves to 9-3 in the ABL, moving into sole possession of first place, while the Oilers fall to 7-3 in the league and 12-5 overall.It was the final contest of a four-game road trip in which Peninsula finished 2-2. The Oilers return home to host the Anchorage Bucs at 7 p.m. Friday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park and at the same time Saturday.
