There is a saying, "it will rain on the just and the unjust." There is a song, "Rain is a Good Thing." It rained on the ninth annual Summer Solstice Music Festival June 19 at the Diamond M Ranch. However, the spirits of the dedicated volunteers who organized the event could not be dampened because of the good feelings about the effort extended. The crowd was smaller than desired but they had a good time eating, drinking, contra dancing and listening to super music and winning fantastic door prizes.
Even though the wind blew hard, it did not rain, and a good time was had by people at the Summer Solstice Party at the Diamond M Ranch on June 21. A special hit was the 40-by-80-foot kayak pool built by John Steckel. Kids and adults enjoyed the kayaks and paddle boats, and although a little chilly, several kids competed in the triathlon, where they inner-tubed, biked and ran. The Kenai Peninsula Bed and Breakfast Association, for which the party was a fundraiser, would like to thank our major sponsors -- Coca Cola, Atigun Inc., Printer's Ink, R & R Auto, Metalizing Inc., Doors/Windows, Dino Jump, Gamas Designs and Grant Aviation.
With a belief that planned Kenai Watershed Forum culvert work will not attract adult salmon, and consequently hungry bears, to streams coursing through the city, Kenai council members on Wednesday pledged their support to three fish passage projects.
The Soldotna High School baseball team would like to thank its supporters, sponsors, parents and student-athletes for helping to make this first season a success. We made all our commitments and had more than enough eligible players for each game. We will be back next year and will improve as we grow.
