Twenty Feet From Stardom

Opens Friday, Jun 14, 2013 Synopsis: Filmmaker Morgan Neville pays homage to some of the greatest vocalists you've never heard of in this documentary. While the lead singers in rock, pop, and R&B are the ones who get the glory, knowledgeable music fans will tell you the backing vocalists often add the touches that make a performance truly memorable, and though many backup singers have the respect of their peers in the music business, they're all but unknown to the average listener. Twenty Feet From Stardom pays homage to some of these unsung heroes, including Darlene Love (the uncredited lead voice on some of Phil Spector's most memorable productions of the 1960s), Merry Clayton (who contributed a striking vocal cameo on the Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter", Lisa Fischer (who has appeared on albums by Sting, Tina Turner, and Aretha Franklin, as well as touring with the Rolling Stones, and the Waters Family (they sang with Michael Jackson on the album {^Thriller} and lent their voices to the films The Lion King and Avatar). The film also includes interviews with such superstars as Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, and Mick Jagger on the role backing vocalists play in music and the music business, while a number of veteran singers share their stories of the ups and downs of their careers. Twenty Feet From Stardom received its world premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi Movie Details Play Trailer Buy Tickets Movie Review

The History of Future Folk

Opens Friday, May 31, 2013 Synopsis: Two evil aliens come to planet Earth on a mission of destruction, and instead end up forming the galaxy's first interplanetary bluegrass folk duo. A massive comet is on a collision course with planet Hondo. When it strikes, all life on that world will be wiped out. Desperate, the Hondonians send heroic General Trius (Nils d'Aulaire) on a mission to seek out a new home amongst the stars. Upon arriving he will unleash a deadly virus capable of destroying all life, thus clearing the way for a massive takeover. Shortly after setting down on planet Earth, however, General Trius is about to set the virus free when he hears the sound of music for the very first time. Entranced, he instead changes his name to Bill, settles down, and starts a family. A few years later, Bill has a regular gig playing bluegrass at a bar owned by Larry (Dee Snider) when inept Hondonian assassin Kevin (Jay Klaitz) arrives on an assignment to complete the failed mission. Instead, Bill and Kevin end up forming the folk duo Future Folk, quickly gaining a loyal following. Meanwhile, with the planned Hondonian takeover of Earth still gaining steam back home, Future Folk must figure out a means of saving their own race without sacrificing another. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi Cast: Nils d'Aulaire, Jay Klaitz, Julie Ann Emery, April Hernandez Castillo, Dee Snider, Onata Aprile Movie Details Play Trailer Buy Tickets Movie Review
