More than 500 public comments on proposed regulation changes to raise boat outboard limits to 50 horsepower and ban the dirtiest class of motors in the Kenai River Special Management Area have flooded the state, but a recent summery of the comments has not revealed the waves of support that some might have expected.
It already is proven that boat wakes cause erosion along the Kenai River, a State Parks official said, but Parks must know more before passing restrictions to address the problem.
Several Kenai River tributaries and thousands of acres by Kenai, Cooper and Trail lakes would become part of Alaska State Parks under a bill introduced by Rep. Ken Lancaster, R-Soldotna.
