Now Playing Synopsis: As directed by Alice Winocour, this period drama travels back to the Belle Époque of 1890s France for an intense chronicle of a young woman's sexual awakening. Soko stars as Augustine, a 19-year-old servant at an upper-crust home in Paris. One night, she lapses into a seizure while serving dinner, and the homeowners promptly have her shipped off to the Pitié-Salpêtriere Psychiatric Hospital, where numerous women are being treated for hysteria. Augustine catches the eye of Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot (Vincent Lindon), especially after he notices that her seizures are accompanied by intense bouts of physical pleasure. Fascinated, the doctor begins using the young woman for neurological experiments set up to study behavior under hypnosis. Over time, the dividing line between professional and personal begins to blur and the two are transitioned from doctor and patient to erotically intertwined lovers. Meanwhile, Augustine begins to subtly assume control over her circumstances. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi Cast: Vincent Lindon, Soko, Chiara Mastroianni Movie Details Play Trailer

Now Playing Synopsis: Set in Victorian London, Tanya Wexler's period comedy Hysteria tells the tale of Mortimer Granville (Hugh Dancy), a young doctor disturbed by the way most hospitals ignore the latest research on germ theory, and still treat patients with bleedings and leeches. After being fired from his most recent job for speaking out on the matter, he ends up in the employ of Dr. Robert Dalrymple (Jonathan Pryce) who runs a private practice specializing in treating women who suffer from "hysteria" and come to the doctor for his precise digital manipulations in order to get a release. With the help of Mortimer's best friend Edmund (Rupert Everett) together they create a device that allows these women to achieve the desired result much more quickly. Complicating matters, Mortimer becomes enamored of Dalrymple's strong-willed, feminist-minded daughter Charlotte (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Hysteria played at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi Cast: Hugh Dancy, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jonathan Pryce, Felicity Jones, Rupert Everett, Ashley Jensen Movie Details Play Trailer
