Residents should not hide in fear

...involvement in self protection and "hide in fear" from the perceived threat. Reminds me of an old 1952 movie with Gary Cooper called "High Noon." The Marshall could not establish active support from the people in the community, to stand with...

Setnet closure doesn't address king salmon problems

The so called attempt to save the Kenai River king salmon on the backs of the eastside setnetters is the biggest boondoggle I've ever witnessed in my lifetime by the so called experts employed by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. I was born here in Alaska in 1949, have spent almost all of my 63 years on the Kenai Peninsula involved in commercial fishing at some level from a very young age from drifting the Inlet with my Dad to running my own setnet site at Humpy Point, beginning in the 1950s through the present.
Should more safety be built in to gas lines?

Natural Gas service safety: I have thought of this many times before, but recently with two potentially life-threatening events happening on the Peninsula in a very short period of time, I wonder why a shut-off valve a safe distance from the structure being served is not required? Better ideas to restore king run needed

Did I just hear what I heard? I just finished listening to the Board of Fish meeting by live streaming on my computer. They voted 5 to 2 in favor of taking no action on the 6 petitions in front of them. Granted they were received with little time to study. Seems like that's the magic word with boards, study. The fish don't understand studies and when they decide to go up the river away they go. Never once during this hour and a half meeting did I hear anyone ask or propose what happened to the kings throughout the state, low returns are everywhere.
