Chernobyl Diaries

Now Playing Synopsis: An extreme vacation turns terrifying when a group of friends visit the Chernobyl disaster site, and learn that some nightmares never die. Conceived and produced by Paranormal Activity's Oren Peli, Chernobyl Diaries gets underway as six thrill-seeking tourists hire a fearless tour guide, and travel to the abandoned Ukrainian city of Pripyat. Back when the Chernobyl nuclear reactor was up and running, Pripyat was the place the workers called home. But 25 years after one of the worst power-plant accidents in history, the city serves as an eerily silent testament to the dangers of nuclear power. Later, after getting unexpectedly stranded in Pripyat, the tourists and their guide realize they are being hunted. Now the harder they try to flee, the faster their numbers dwindle until only a few are left standing. Only then will the unspeakable terror that stalks these deserted streets finally emerge from the shadows to launch one last relentless, terrifying attack. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi Cast: Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Dimitri Diatchenko, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Devin Kelley, Jesse McCartney, Nathan Phillips, Jonathan Sadowski Movie Details Play Trailer Buy Tickets Movie Review

Klitschko

Opens Friday, Oct 21, 2011 Synopsis: Documentary filmmaker Sebastian Dehnhardt offers an intimate look into the lives of Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, two sibling boxers from the Ukraine who moved to Germany in 1996 and quickly rose to the status of role models for millions of adoring fans. As Wladimir ascended to the top of the Heavyweight Boxing world, Vitali entered the world of politics and seemed poised for a presidential run. And it would hardly be a surprise if he succeeded; not only are both brothers multi-lingual, but they have also earned their PhDs. In this film, friends and family of the Klitschko brothers reveal how a childhood spend growing up on Soviet military bases helped to shape their lives, how the Chernobyl disaster directly impacted their family, and how they both beat the odds to become two of the most powerful, respected pugilists on the planet. Incredibly, through it all, both brothers have maintained their vow never to face off against one another in the ring. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi Movie Details Buy Tickets Movie Review

A Good Day to Die Hard

Protecting Komarov won't be easy, even for the cop who's single-handedly defeated small armies of terrorists, and the sharp-shooting son he's never known. Meanwhile, when the fearless father and son catch wind of a deadly plot unfolding in Chernobyl, they face the fight of their lives in one of the most hostile landscapes known to man. Pandora's Promise

Now Playing Synopsis: If there is a consensus about anything among environmental activists, it's that's nuclear power is dangerous, and its tremendous downsides cancel out any possible advantages as a source of energy. Or at least that's how most people see the issue. The truth is there is a small but growing number of environmental experts who believe that despite well-known disasters such as Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima, it is possible to generate safe and cost-effective power using nuclear materials with a minimum of waste and without the inefficiencies of renewable methods such as wind and solar, which at current levels cannot meet public demand. A handful of leading voices in the environmental movement, among them Stewart Brand, Gwyneth Cravens, Richard Rhodes, and Michael Shellenberger, are now promoting nuclear power as a "green" energy source, and filmmaker Robert Stone (who presented a history of the ecology movement in the film Earth Days) gives them a chance to present their side of the argument in the documentary Pandora's Promise. The film received its world premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi Cast: Stewart Brand, Mark Lynas, Michael Shellenberger Movie Details Play Trailer Buy Tickets Movie Review
