The city of Kenai held a dedication ceremony for the newest park in their Municipal Park system Saturday. Mayor Pat Porter officially proclaimed the park Daubenspeck Family Park, in honor of Harold and Rita Daubenspeck. The park is located just off Marathon Road, behind Walmart. Members of the Parks and Recreation department, the Parks and Recreation commission and the Rotary Club were present at the ceremony. Sen. Tom Wagoner was present as well.
Soldotna High School's class of 2002 held a memorial run Saturday as part of its 10-year reunion. The Forget-Me-Not 5K was held to honor two members of the class of '02 who were killed in automobile accidents. Abby Verhelst died in a car accident in Kent, Ohio in 2006. She was 22. Cody Burman was struck by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle in Savannah, Ga., in 2010. He was 27. Race director Haylee Donovan said, "They were both big parts of so many of our lives and we want them to be remembered, not only by us, but by the community."
The Kenai Kennel Club's annual dog show drew more than 400 dogs of nearly 90 different breeds to Soldotna from all over Alaska and even across the United States. The event, held at Skyview High School on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, consisted of three all-breed shows, with two obedience trials and two rally trials. Marianne McCullough drove to Alaska all the way from Coconut Creek, Fla. Like most people, McCullough came to Alaska for vacation. But she also had other plans in mind.

Mike Crawford and Adam Reimer, both members of the TTA, organized the race in conjunction with Angie Brennan, the chair person of the KPCSC. "It was my understanding that we hadn't had a race in a really long time, so I wanted to organize a mountain bike race," Crawford said of planning the event
