Weather contributes to car crashes

The Kenai Spur Highway reopened at Mile 7.5 just after 6 p.m. Sunday after being closed for about an hour due to a snowstorm-related series of collisions. Kenai Police Sgt. Kelly George said the highway was closed because of vehicles and debris on the road, the result of an accident that involved four cars. Names of those involved in the accident have not been released. The pileup started when a 40-year-old woman driving a 1995 Maroon Ford Tarus driving toward Soldotna passed another vehicle, fishtailed and lost control. She hit a 2008 Dodge Durango head-on.
