After reading Ms. Martin's letter to the editor (Oct. 17), I felt that I too, should write to urge residents to vote. However, we have had far too many "business" men taking office in our country with disastrous results. I would not trust our "multimillion dollar operation" to such a business man as Mike Navarre. Let's not forget that Navarre was appointed this year to sit on the CPGH Inc. Board, which is full of businessmen, who desire to sell our hospital while it is at its "maximum value." Do not think the battle for our hospital is over, the CPGH.
I wanted to thank Gary Knopp for having the concern about the medical divide at our hospital and taking the time to have the round table meeting. It is unfortunate that so many were unaware of the meeting and did not attend. I agree with Mr. Knopp that the CPGH Inc. Board no longer seems to be content to just operate the hospital anymore, they want more and more and are accountable to no one. I heard the Board President give testimony that she believes that people are not dissatisfied with the operation and goings on at the hospital but with the healthcare system in general.
The proposal to build a surgery center in Kenai has brought to mind several thoughts. First, am I the only one that thinks it's a little strange that the self-appointed CPGH, Inc. board would have one of its members (now former) to vote in the Aug. 2011 meeting and then have his name attached to a Certificate of Need (CON) application the next month?
Last (week)'s CPGH Inc. Board meeting was one not to miss! It turns out that the current and former CEOs of CPGH (ie. The Board) has misled two independent Radiation Oncologists to purchase land and invest in a free-standing cancer center only to learn that CPGH has made a "business decision" to "offer a duplicate in services" and build their own cancer center. The Board is now proposing to build a multi-million dollar radiation oncology facility for the purpose of leasing it. Since when is it CPGH's responsibility to be landlords?
