Painting the town

It took a small army to complete the 16-by-28 foot community mural. Nearly 100 eager Nikiski community members filled in the panels over two full-day sessions in a seldom-used classroom at the Nikiski Recreation Center last Friday and Saturday.

The chords, familiar to many in the bar, drifted out over the audience who sat laughing and talking to each other. Several lifted glasses to drink as Richard King leaned into the microphone and crooned out the words to a classic Mexican song.
