Hope Sunrise Volunteer and Cooper Landing Fire Department personnel found Tuesday human remains at a burned cabin in Hope. The remains have been sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy and identification. The fire does not appear suspicious at this time, Alaska State Troopers reported. Authorities have not released the name of the individual.
An apartment fire at the Chuda House retirement facility in North Kenai claimed the life of a possible resident early Tuesday morning. The state medical examiner hasn't positively identified the body yet, but emergency officials believe it belongs to resident Martha McMullen, who was unaccounted for as of Tuesday afternoon.
